Strengths in Action
Supporting Positive Parent-Child Relationships Through Strength Spotting
In this project, we explore the strengths of Autistic youth and how families can use them in everyday life. In one study, we first asked caregivers about the positive qualities they see in their children, such as kindness, humour, perseverance, and love. We then explored a Strength Spotting activity, where parents practiced noticing and recording their child's strengths each day for 2 weeks. In a more recent project, we are examining parents' experiences with this approach through interviews. Together, these studies help us learn how focusing on strengths may support positive family relationships and help Autistic youth thrive.
